Fire Prevention in the Laundry Room

While kitchen fires are still the leading cause of house fires in the United States, an average of 42 families are affected by laundry room fires per day.
The most frustrating thing about these fires is that they could have easily been prevented with just a few simples rules to follow.
Always make sure that both your washer and dryer and plugged into an outlet with the correct amount of voltage and never use an extension cord to run your machines.
Your lint screen needs to be cleared out after every use and once a month it should be cleaned with warm soapy water (make sure it dries completely before putting it back into the dryer).
Be sure to keep the floor free and clear of any cleaning chemicals or other flammable items.
Installing a fire alarm in the laundry room or in the hallway outside of the laundry room can help keep your family safe incase anything was to happen.
